These images don’t quite do it justice, but the sky in the #NYC area was a pallid, apocalyptic yellow today. Smoke from the #Canadian #wildfires has been carried south (apparently even as far as Virginia) and parts of the city smell like a campfire. I can’t even imagine what it’s like in #Ontario and #Quebec.
@izzyamar I am in Ottawa, Canada, just south of the airport... Check out the air quality readings this morning via https://map.purpleair.com/1/mAQI/a10/p604800/cC0#9.24/45.3783/-75.7139
Looking outside I can see the smoke affecting viability within 300'. Definitely have to wear and #N95mask outside. Smoke is bad enough to irritate the eyes after a few minutes outdoors.
@alexblock Oh dear god - I’ve never seen air quality numbers that bad. Hopefully things improve soon - be safe!!
@izzyamar @Patrickoldhiker I live in Richmond Virginia and it was notably hazy yesterday afternoon. I had to drive to Dulles in Northern VA to pick up my girlfriend from an international flight and the sunset was just a weird orange smudge in an otherwise indistinct sky and the air had a faint scent of day-old campfire ash.
