@monsieuricon I mostly use g(un)zip through tar.
In fact, the only tar option combinations I can actually remember is -czf (for Create gZipped File) and -xzf (for eXtract gZipped File)
@iliazeus FYI, tar will automatically recognized compressed archives. You don't need to add -z, -j, you can just do -xf.
